A Celebration of Junior Simpson
Over 30 years ago, a young comedian from Luton made his first TV appearance in the groundbreaking black sketch comedy show The Real McCoy after being championed by the legendary Felix Dexter. Junior Simpson went on to be a stalwart of the international comedy circuit and, besides working as warm up for countless TV shows, was a familiar face in front of the camera on shows such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks, They Think Its All Over, Death in Paradise and, of course, as the iconic “World’s Worst DJ” in the blockbuster film Love Actually. As Junior now retires from both performing and writing following a diagnosis of Vascular Dementia, long time friends and colleagues are gathering to celebrate his career and help raise funds towards his long-term care. Kate Smurthwaite One of the UK’s foremost female political comedians, Kate appears regularly on British television and radio as a pundit on subjects ranging from politics to religion. Ninia Benjamin Ninia is best known for being one of TVs 3 Non Blondes. Ninia worked with Junior providing the voices for characters Tinga Tinga Tales. Clinton Baptiste Clinton Baptiste is the hapless clairvoyant, medium and psychic from Peter Kay’s smash hit Channel 4 TV show Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights. MC’s Quincy - Comedy Central’s Comedy Blue, MTV’s Comedy Funhouse, and BBC Radio 4 Extra’s Comedy On The Boat.
